Dear readers,

It all began last year during the refurbishment of Miskatonic University’s ancient library. As a student with limited means, I had enlisted to assist with some unskilled labor. To my surprise, while tearing down old plaster, I uncovered a long-forgotten fireplace concealed behind it. Intrigued, I ventured deeper and stumbled upon the discovery that would shape the course of my life: a stack of weather-beaten leather journals belonging to none other than Mr. Randolph Carter.

As a literature student, I had encountered H.P. Lovecraft’s cosmic horror stories and immediately recognized Randolph Carter as a recurring character within them. This revelation led me down a rabbit hole of discovery that continues to haunt me to this day. Randolph Carter, it seemed, was not merely a character of fiction, but a real individual who delved into the arcane and the mysterious, traversing the dark paths that Lovecraft merely wrote about. It was these very investigations into the esoteric that ultimately led to Mr. Carter’s mysterious disappearance in 1932.

I have taken it upon myself to become the custodian of these lost journals and to share the knowledge they contain. I am also determined to discover exactly what happened to Mr. Carter all those years ago.

However, I am acutely aware of the dangers that lurk within the shadows, and thus, I choose to remain anonymous. For in delving too deeply into the mysteries of the unknown, I fear that I may meet the same fate as Mr. Carter himself.

So what will you find here? Within these pages are many of Lovecraft’s tales of terror along with Mr. Carter’s notes and observations. Additionally, within his journals he also made investigations into the esoteric tomes that had inspired Lovecraft’s writings. And, you’ll forgive me if I too have done some investigations of my own into these matters.

If you too are interested in these mysteries then tread carefully with me. Below I’ll keep a list of entries wherein I have found possible clues.

Clue #1,

However, you may find clues that I have missed, so be sure to read thoroughly.

Yours in curiosity,
